Dec 4th, 2017Not had wine from this producer before, but I adore this vineyard, and at a close out price, I wanted to give it a try.
As expected for Bien Nacido, there was a savory note on the nose with some smoked meat and iron, wrapped around rhubarb tart and candied black cherries. On the palate, it was quite light and semi acidic, with hardly any finish. I’m assuming there was a small use of whole cluster here due to the spice and lifted profile, but aside from that, it was fairly easy going with potpourri, bing cherries, and some cedar.

It has light to light medium body but a tremendous amount of complexity of subtle nuances and spices in the flavors total red fruit cranberry restrained cherry notes but certainly ultra-restrained by California standards. This is a very interesting wine. Complexities and subtle spices become more evident as a wine opens up with a bit of hair. Very good stuff!
