It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Deep purple in color with a wide reddish rim.

Strong nose of black currants, plums, cooked cherries, tobacco, cedar, chocolates, vanilla, licorice, light herbs and light alcohol.

Full bodied and soft, with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black plums, cooked cherries, currants, blueberries, light oak, licorice, vanilla, spices, espresso, light earth, herbs and peppercorn.

Nice length on the finish with round tannins and sweet spices.

This 5 year old red blend from Washington State is drinking at its peak right now.

Elegant and easy drinking right out of the bottle. Gets better after 30 minutes of airtime, when more complexity and tannins come in to play.

Rich and extracted. Fruit forward and spicy, with a really nice nose, once it opens up.

Wine Enthusiasts 91 points.

Showing nice complexity and good by itself or with food.

It’s so nice when an entry level wine does you the favor of punching above its weight. Medium ruby color with thin edges and lilac undertones. The nose is a little muted but it’s so clean and floral. Fresh cherry pie, violets, milk chocolate, and anise on the bouquet. All smooth goodness from start to finish. Easygoing in the mouth, there is a bit of complexity but this wine is mainly here for the party. A kitchen sink blend that’s mostly Merlot, this has a lot of disparate elements that come together very well. Plenty of mint chocolate, wild berries, and cinnamon, with oak saying hello throughout. A clean, focused, and unfussy pour. Nice stuff.

Good red blend. 80% Bordeaux, 20% Rhone blend. Starts off like a Bordeaux and finishes with the slight peppery notes of a Rhône.
