Le Vieux Pin
Retouche Cabernet Syrah

Retouche is a tribute to the "hermitaging" of wines in Bordeaux. Classic Cab Sauv characteristics accented and enhanced by Syrah. A fine example of a wine that is so much more because of blending.

This wine is composed of 56% Merlot, 23% Syrah, and 21% Cabernet Franc. The longer it stayed in my glass, the better it tasted. It has pronounced aromas of dark plum, dark cherry, and blackberry, along with a hint of pepper and some spiced herbs. The wine is complex, well-rounded, and balanced, featuring smooth tannins and a long finish.

Dark, deep and powerful! This could age for many more years. Tannic, full bodied, long finish, high acid, blackberry, pepper, cassis, violets and plum.

I’m going against the grain from a few people I have conversed with in regards to Le Vieux Pin. This Retouch bottle is a blend of Cabernet and Syrah, with some merlot. It’s light to medium bodied. It has subtle Cabernet berry characteristics that starts off well, but quickly disappears. It’s followed by a Syrah spice that is fleetingly present. For the price point and general fan fair, it falls below my expectations. It’s not a bad wine. It just over promises and under delivers.
