La Bottega Bianca
Guarangelo "Il Superstite" Basilicata Rosso
Basilicata, Italy
This was part of the Masterclass i just organised at the Pollino Wine Fest.
The pointed out that this can be the reason why we held in Castelluccio Superiore where wine was always made, but lately the quality was lacking clearly.
Angelo retired after a life spent mostly gor work in Alto Adige where quality in winemaking is a standard not an exception.
He came back to Basilicata wanting to fix all the mistakes that himself and the family had made in the past in the vineyard.
The vineyard is now spotless and beautiful, it is hard though to give ratios on varieties. One sure thing is that 70% of it is 40yo and the gnarling vines are testifying that.
Hard to categorise the flavours but there some harmony and identity.
Quite a long persistence.
Great effort and it is only the beginning hoping someone will stand by Angelo and help him doing what he is doing.
