A producer new to me but a district I love as in Waipara or Canterbury north of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand. Wonderful red fruited aromatics with minerality, freshly tilled soils, compost heap (Sous Bois) and various spices. From gravel soil vineyards in North Canterbury. Aged in French Oak barrels for about 18 months. No fining or filtration. Canterbury flies under the radar for many wine lovers but I can assure you it is a source of high quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Bell Hill is worth seeking out.

Upon opening the bottle there was lots of smoke. Kind of obnoxious. That goes away after half an hour and you really start to get that red cherry fruit. Light color with some cloudiness. It’s growing on me.
