A very good pair with the Crown Roast. It's in a perfect drinking stage. The tannins are nicely resolved. The fruits are; ripe & juicy blackberries, blueberries, dark raspberries, big black plum, creamed raspberries, raspberry cola, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, dry floral bouquet, subtle anise, soft leather, spice-box, rich, elegant, moist earth, some underbrush, nice acidity, good balance, structure, length and tension. The finish is rich, round, elegant, long, delicious fruit intermixed with spice. It lasts and lasts. There are a number of folks that find it easy to drink Kolbalt young...including me. However, you are only selling the experience very short by not waiting 8-10 years slightly plus depending on vintage.

Dec 26th, 2016Perfect drinking spot. Just fine with a great integration. Heavier on the black fruit and wood now but 05 has boiled down to a great recipe for age.
