Kirkland Signature
Old Vine Sonoma County Zinfandel
Sunny, ripe plum, raspberry, vanilla and nicely integrated (American?) oak, vanilla and baking spice aromas. Enticing. Pretty balanced for its 15.3 alcohol, some heat in the finish. Medium bodied with unapologetic New World sexiness. Plum, earth and vanilla persistent in the finish with a bit of heat. Match with goat cheese, older cheddar, flat iron steak frites. Handles its ripeness and boldness in a jazzy balance that makes it a good value. More food wine than a supper for me. Using for an Intro to Food and Wine class.

5 people found it helpfulJan 23rd, 2015This one is Great right out of the bottle. However, it does become more complex as it opens up in the decanter.
Deep purple in color with a purplish rim.
Great fruity nose with blackberries, cherries, blueberries, light vanilla, flat Cola, licorice, currants, wild flowers and black pepper.
Full-bodied but not bold. Elegant and jammy, with gorgeous legs and medium plus acidity.
Fruity and dry on the palate with plums, blackberry jam, blueberries, sweet cherries, vanilla, licorice, wood, black currants, spices and black pepper.
Nice length on the finish with soft, round tannins and spices.
Very enjoyable and well balanced. This 2012 vintage from California is just great. I kept a few bottles, and I think I need to get to them by the end of the year. Definitely peeking now. I just love the nose on it.
I Paired it with Parmesan cheese (before dinner) and then, pasta with meat sauce.
15.3% (awesome) alcohol by volume.

Very nice deep red color with a pink rim.
Medium to full bodied with gorgeous, long and meaty legs.
Fruity zinfandale characteristics on the nose, with raisins, figs, blackberries, sweet blueberries, white pepper and alcohol.
Opened up in one hour.
Fruity on the palate with raisins, cranberries, sweet cherry and pomegranate.
Long finish with bold, supple tannins and peppercorn.
Balanced with enough acidity to make it interesting.
Great value with a great taste. Very recommended.

Lots of fruit, not pretentious. Pretty intense, not lacking on tannin. Give it decanter time. A nice price point and a good match for my lamb chop.

Feb 1st, 2016👌👌 I wasn't expecting much, but this is actually a pretty good old vine zin. A little tart. Not a very complex or robust zin, but there are some nice flavors going on here. You get a little pepper with a little plum. Aromatically, it is a bit astringent, but there are slight hints of vanilla and raisin.

Oct 21st, 2015Spicy and peppery and strong. It was my first zinfandel, I didn't know this is unique I tasted before. I don't know other zinfandel, but it's the one of the unique wine I have had.

Sep 29th, 2015I would say 'not bad for a Costco wine,' but... It is not bad for MOST Old Vine Zins! Nicely done, Kirkland!

Aug 19th, 2015Solid. Not complex by any measure, but excellent and ready to drink. Paired well with grilled Korean BBQ short ribs. Likely impossible to beat for $9.99.
