Everything about this guy is intense. The nose (once you get past the alcohol) is bright red fruit, jammy black fruit, spicy spices, baking spices with vanilla, and sweet tobacco.
First taste is a fountain of intensity. Like pouring honey-thick dried black and blueberries into your mouth. My mouth is shocked by the power of the tannins and immediately pleased at how smooth and polished they are(French oak, American oak, bottle aging, everything!) Also having a chalky slatey quality there is just so much for the mind to look over. Absolutely mindnumbing intensity. It's like that double nitro stout that you can barely finish one of but is so rich and delicious you muscle your way to the bottom of the glass. As intense as this is, I would want a nice bright dish to pair with this, with comparable acidity. If I did something creamy or fatty and rich I would get buried in a bottomless sea of richness and palate fatigue.
For the price I paid, great value.

Smooth and rich with peppery berry notes and a dry finish. Excellent with wagyu steak.
