Kendall-Jackson
Vintner's Reserve California Cabernet Sauvignon
The cork of this 24 year old wine broke when I tried to open it. Got this from An auction. This garnet wine is still deep in color, but the orange/brown-ish tells the age. Smells like old wine - earthy and toasty, and a hint of VA. Surprisingly there is still enough fruit notes: jammy, cooked red fruit, prune. Possibly related to the hot growing season of 1994. Some vanilla notes. Finish is long. For the price and age, I am impressed with the aging potential. Pretty good bottle.

This was probably a $10 wine from a grocery store back when released in 1992 but after more than 25 years slowly aging it has become a lovely, unexpectedly vibrant wine. The fruit has not faded at all and the wine could pass for one only 10 years old. Overall a delightful wine and way better than I would ever have expected. Goes to show you the quality of California Cabernet fruit.
