Huge dense blackberry and blueberry. More acid than expected which perfectly cuts through the juicy lamb we had, allowing the black pepper and distinctive salty olive quality to shine. Some carnal smoke. Very complex wine for the money.

The ever so difficult to find Creosote flavored milkshake.

Whew... back to my happy place. Doesn't quite have that pop and verve that the Motor City Kitty does, but what it lacks in presence it more than makes up for with pure unadulterated hedonism. Sweet and rich, but layered. Leans towards the bitter and dark end of the chocolate and fruit spectrum, but that said, both are on full display. Has a distinctly charcuterie backdrop that evolves, but at the same time fades in and out.

Price and value make this a stunner from Charles Smith. Despite being a young 2014 it drinks well. Smooth and approachable, slight gamey notes that open to a smooth spicy finish. Time will only make it better.

I have always been a huge fan of the wines produced by Charles Smith and K Vintners and this just adds fuel to the fire. Ripe blueberry, smoked meat, dark cocoa, cinnamon, tobacco just punch you in the face. Such a bold wine, very northern Rhône in style. So damn good.

This is a nice, lower end K Vintner Syrah (priced at $30 at Lukas Liquors). It doesn't have the intense fruit and spice as his higher end Syrahs, though.
