Just a massive, massive mountain Cab. Impenetrably dark purple with rust colored accents. Like everything else with this wine, the nose is huge. Dark chocolate, faded roses, and pepper compliment the abundance of red and blue fruits. That wonderful Howell Mountain saves this from itself. It’s another humongous Napa Cab but that fruit shines at times. Plenty of depth and acidity with a smoother than expected mouthfeel. As full bodied as you can possibly stand. Before decanting there is a sour fruit streak running throughout but that does fade after an hour. Or two. The hard decant helps with the balance and cools off some of the heat. Loads of blackberries, blueberries, warm spice, and leather on the palate. Dry dry dry with some mild oak and black pepper on the longish finish. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea but it’ll work.
