What’s special about this wine you ask? Well, it tastes pretty good, and it’s been crafted by former Penfolds chief winemaker, John Duval. In fact he is one of only 4 men who have made Penfolds Grange.

A big thanks to Cellarmasters who recently sent me this sample of the Duval Spiritus Shiraz Grenache Mataro 2016 from the Barossa Valley to taste. Mr Spittoon and I enjoyed it on a rather chilly night recently while soaking up some Netflix (yes that’s what we do most nights!).

The wine spends 12 months in French and American oak. It is made from a blend of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro.

Fun fact for you: When winemakers list a blend of grapes in a wine, typically they list the grapes in order of what contributes the most to the least in the blend.

Here are our notes on this Barossa Valley red:

it’s a gorgeous deep berry red shade in the glass. On the nose, it made me think of chocolate, berries and spice – yum! While in the mouth it has an incredibly smooth texture with a nice oomph of fruit and lick of spice. Extremely easy to consume and perfect for curry night. Yes, I love my Shiraz & Curry!

This wine was sent to me direct from Cellarmasters as a sample, I was under no obligation to post about it.

All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!
