Lou Taissou Saint Joseph Syrah

Brought to Tasting Group. Popped and poured; presented in typical double-blind fashion. In the glass, the wine is deep purple with an opaque core. Medium+ viscosity. The nose is simply sensational. Intense aromas of pepper salami, purple flowers, kalamata olives, tobacco, and Spanish paprika. On the palate, the wine is fairly primary at this stage with gorgeous black and blue fruits and a healthy amount of black pepper. There is a lovely freshness about this wine. High tannin, medium+ acid with a long, satisfying finish. What a winner. Domaine de L’Iserand “Lou Taissou” is 100% organic and biodynamically farmed Syrah from Ozon. 60% whole cluster with half the production aged in 600L demi-muids and the other half aged in Flextank. Only 208 cases of were made.

From granitic soils, minimal sulfur. 60% whole cluster then Spanish amphora for 15 months. Closed at first then the fruit emerges with a long berry finish.

Opened one to satisfy my curiosity. Dark fruit but also very fresh and mineral, blood, olive, meat, herbs. This is way too young so gonna bury the rest of the case in the cellar. For now 92 but room for another point or two

Such a great drinking SJ especially if you like notes of meat, blood, iron, olive, pepper, mineral, licorice with dark cherry, berry fruit & violets.

Just a great drinking SJ that is not far behind the level of Gonon showing dark fruits, mineral, meat, licorice, earth, blood, spice, olive, violet & tobacco notes. Wow, what a great wine at $50!

This producer whom was relatively unknown to me just blows me away with its gobs of dark fruits showing mineral, meat, blood, spice, olive & violet notes. Great QPR at $40-$45

Another great St Joseph, ethereal nose showing lots of dark berry, umami flavors, soy, mineral, olive, savory spice along with floral notes.

Dark berries, plum, cured meat, savory. Needed a little time to open up but became more fruity.
