Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.
Fruity nose with black currants, black plums, black cherries, vanilla, light vegetables, oak, licorice, earth, leather, black pepper, spices and bitter herbs.
Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry and fruity on the palate with cherries, plums, sweet strawberries, blueberries, vanilla, spices, cloves, leather, oak, chocolates, coffee, bitter herbs, vegetables, pencil lead and peppercorn.
Nice length on the finish with soft, round tannins and tangy cranberries.
The California Red Blend is drinking nicely now. Very soft and easy drinking. Well-balanced with mild complexity.
By now, the high alcohol is not noticeable anymore. Good for parties a good everyday drinker. Good by itself or with food. Not very sophisticated, but enjoyable nonetheless.
I paired it with a cheese plate with fruits and crackers.
