Apple, fig, quince and French oak show playful and integrated completeness in the nose. Very intriguing and crafty aromatics for the price point. Not a lot of wines is show to real wine geeks for about $20, but this one's special. Rich enough to be Chard, structured enough to be pure Santa Maria. Balanced and crafty in the mouth with a nice mix of breadth and acidity. Serve with goat cheese fritters or fried squash blossoms with nectarine jam.

Lemon peel, tangerine, flowers and chamomile all grace the exquisite, creamy, vivid 2017 Chardonnay from J. Wilkes. Beautifully layered yet also light on its feet, with tons of Santa Maria character, the 2017 is a winner. Best of all, this absolutely delicious Chardonnay is a remarkable value. $22.00 (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, October 2019)

Buttered warm baked crusty apple dessert on the nose. Lightly oaked, allows the crispness of the grape to sparkle through the warmth.
