Inglenook
Edizione Pennino Rutherford Zinfandel
Clean, cherry red color. Liquorice, aged fruit, raspberry, strawberry, hints of pepper on a very interesting nose. Long persistence, not an average zinfandel, probably not ready since it is not rounded on mouth.

1 person found it helpfulFeb 14th, 2018Monthly wine group meet up. This month's theme was non-typical reds from Napa. Wines were tasted blind. Always a great time. 👌
This was my contribution for the evening. I found out last year that Inglenook made a zin and really enjoyed it. Nose was filled with vanilla and raspberries. Oak wasn't huge, and there was a great medley of fruit going on in here with blueberries being dominant. Balanced. One of two wines that nobody guessed the varietal correctly.

This vintage continues the evolution to a fresher, more elegant style, but retaining the polish of new oak and evenly ripe fruit. Not as edgy or expressive as some new wave Zins, but always a class act.

Nov 14th, 2016Another Scott McLeod masterpiece. Tasted blind, could have fooled me for a merlot. Jammy and plummy with pepper and spice and everything nice after some decanting. Smooth tannins and a hint of vanilla and cocoa. This has years to go.

Jan 16th, 2016A Rutherford Zinfandel that eschews the high alcohol and high sugar style predominant in California, this wine is balanced with medium body and smooth blueberry tones. In a blind taste test I would have guessed a Merlot/Sangiovese blend.
