The 2019 Sauvignon Blanc is bright and crisp. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint, orchard fruit and tomato leaf are nicely delineated. The Sauvignon is done in equal parts tank and oak, with an approach that favors energy over volume. The bright, saline finish is so appealing. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, January 2021)

This leans more to the grassy, mineral driven style. Lots of citrus, stony minerals, and herbaceous notes. Very clean and bright, drink this all summer long.

Brief tasting notes from the annual Fort Worth Food & Wine Festival. Whites knocked it out of the park this year.

We visited Hourglass two months ago when we were in Napa, but they informed us their SB was sold out. Reminds me of Merry Edwards SB with a bit more fresh cut grass on the nose. Great tropical weight with a finish of savory limestone. Fantastic. I’m buying some of this.

Nice, cut grass, green apple, lemon, lime, pineapple, honeysuckle, good medium volcanic minerals, yellow florals, round acidity and a thick, waxy, rich, polished finish.

Finally getting around to posting wines from my annual Napa trip from two weeks ago. Always goes by quick! Lots of fun new stops this year.

We returned to Hourglass after our visit in 2018 as the wines are just so enjoyable, but the tasting cave may be one of the coolest spots to enjoy a glass of wine.

I’ve had many vintages (and bottles) of this and it’s always consistent. In an age of “super SauvBlancs”, this toes the line between old school and new school. Lots of grass, little bit of grapefruit, lemon lime candy and minerality in the nose. It gives way to more lemon on the palate, waffling back and forth between oak or steel with high acidity and a slightly rounded profile on the finish. I like this SB a touch warmer than others as the acidity can be razor sharp when it’s cold. Great for the price.

@Plate & Bottle Dinner.

Second course, Corn Pudding, Truffle Butter. So unique and executed masterfully by Chef Hedy. Corn is prepared with a leek thyme cream and few cherry tomato to garnish.

The Hourglass SB is so good on its own but, together they are a near perfect ten.

Stunning example of SB. There are many examples of mediocre to bad SB. This is absolutely not one of them. It’s everything a good SB can be! From 375ml.

The more I have this SauvBlanc, the more I realize it’s one of my favorites coming out of Napa. Very similar to the ‘16 vintage I had a few months back which was reminiscent of a dialed back Merry Edwards. Lots of fresh cut grass, piercing acidity highlighted by limestone and slate. Tropical stone fruits on the nose. Finish of lemon lime tart and key lime pie. Delicious.

Beautiful mad tropical with edgy minerality on the nose. Dry in style. Big citrus, white peach, mango, pineapple, green apple, green melon creamsicle beautifully balanced taut minerality that coats the palate and is simply fantastic with superlative acidity and long dry tropical finish. @Paul T You want some of this Sauv Blanc if you can find it.
