Compelling nose - heavy dark fruited and black pepper. A train wreck otherwise.

Sur Echalas Vineyard, 2012 Vintage. Like sticking your nose in a plate of gourmet black olives. Also notes of pepper, bacon fat, olive tapenade and savory dark fruits. Some tar and notes of roasted game. Plush with a silky mouth feel. Great depth and richness. Lengthy finish.

WOW! I'm sold on the nose alone. It is so intoxicating and complex. Beef blood, forest floor, tons of spice. On the palate, there's cured meats, tobacco, olive tapenade. The finish is Smokey like bbq brisket. And it just goes on. There is some heat even though it is listed at 13.8% alcohol.

I decanted this one four hours but recommend going longer. It's still opening up at six hours. I'll see how it progresses through the night.

I'm going to wait a few years before popping another, but I'm definitely staying on this list.
