Hofgut Falkenstein
Niedermenninger Sonnenberg Spätlese Trocken Spätburgunder
Such details of the Webers’ approach to Pinot Noir as the layering of whole and crushed clusters in the fermenter and the absence of malolactic transformation, not to mention their Saar sites, have combined for many memorably unique red wines, but I cannot recall one more exciting than this. A whole flower shop of perfume is allied on the nose with penetratingly high-toned kirsch, cherry pit and citrus oils, behind which emerge anticipations of the savory and mineral elements that lend this Pinot’s silken, buoyant and infectiously juicy palate its striking allure. Herbed, salted veal stock and shrimp-shell reduction set the salivary glands pumping, while the layering and dynamic interaction of floral, pit-fruited, citric and stony elements delivers almost kaleidoscopic complexity on the vibrant and refreshing finish.
