Haarmeyer Wine Cellars
Reserve Wirz Riesling
Not sure if this Reserve bottling was handled differently than the standard 2019 or if it was simply aged longer, but it definitely has a different feel. The more intense flavors of skin fermentation are toned down, revealing a more nuanced side.
Caramelize stone fruit, orange oil, lychee and quince. Szechuan pepper, garam masala and dried jasmine. Tangy, mouthwatering acidity, a rich mid-palate, with limestone echoing in the finish.
As different as some of the bottlings of this wine have been over the last few years, there is an unmistakable continuity of flavor and place. This Wirz riesling "program" has hit it's stride without ever really doing the same thing twice. I don't know of a more exciting and interesting riesling in California right now. 🍑🍐🍊🥀⛰️

2020. Skin contact dry Riesling?!! I hadn’t really tried one before I saw this in the wine shop when I was picking up an order of “normal” Rieslings and had to buy it. Beautiful copper color, a little funk that dissipated, mouthwatering acidity, and a little tannin on the finish. Pulled out to pair with some salty umami Greek foods. Delicious!
