Oh man what a nose. A minty nose. Fresh decaying leaves, cranberry bog. Red currant. Fresh and energetic. Silky, ripe and perfectly balanced. Juicy and textured. Icing on cake texture. So different than the massive 19’s. Structure. Awesome .

Jun 16th, 2024Been a very long time and this is showing so so well. Nose is mid season cherries, cranberry bog, desiccated orange rind, slate and soil tones. So deep and soulful. Palate is like a cloud. So juicy but lithe and ethereal. Really floats but has stunningly persistent acidity and such purity. Wonderful. Elegant and balanced. Gorgeous wine. Sweetened up overnight and got so much more focused. 9.3 to 9.4.

Apr 16th, 2024A stunning bottle of Mosel Pinot. Deep, penetrating nose of dark cherry, slate, moss, mid season cherry, black cherry and some blackberry flower. Tree bark and such complexity. Has more to tell that is for sure. Wild mint starts to develop. Palate is deep and structured with amazing sap and density and Grand Cru grip and structure. Pure, balanced and lovely black and red cherries with velvety tannins that are perfectly ripe. So pure and so deep. Incredible length and sap. Finish is a mineral wash and accented with blackberries and darker red cherries. This is young but very promising. So long and such well defined fruit.

Jul 29th, 2022Nose is cherries and mulch. Lovely sweetness and sappiness. Earthy and mineral. Smells very vivid and pure and also needs to open up. Best nose of any of the steinmetz Pinot 18’s so far. Some nice licorice and cherry couch syrup as well. Palate is juicy and ripe with sweet and velvety tannins and great purity. The fruit just stays on your tongue. Raspberry and vivid cherries. Dark cherries. Excellent. Very complex and elegant. Amazingly soft and supple tannins. So elegant and pure. Great freshness and balance. Best Steinmetz red 18 I’ve had so far.
