87/100 I adore this Merlot so when I saw the 09, being new to me I had to try it.
Intense nose straight away, chocolate, expresso, liquorice, cigar box, wonderful character, intensity, some truffled black fruit.
The palate is rich, not as dense as the 11 but with wonderful active acid and black fruit and has that same iconic fine polished Merlot tannin.
The finish is a tad shallow verses other years, feels the same as the 09 Villa Amarone I had recently, so maybe a vintage issue.
