Guasti Clemente & Figli
Boschetto Vecchio Barbera d'Asti Superiore
Sour cherry, marzipan, licorice, some yeasty bread notes (?), an irony touch along with an earthy thing... This is not very clean.
The palate is very well designed though and marked by a laser beam of an acid drive, giving a clear structure to the wine. There is some width with sour cherry notes all along, a vivid mouthfeel that gives way in midpalate to a monster of a tannic wall, drying everything in its wake. It's almost green to an extent. The finish is long and showcases tangy sour cherry notes that gently fade away amidst a grainy drying layer that goes on for a good while. That wine doesn't really come across as gentle and subtle, it's better to have it along with food (as in meaty, beefy dishes) and it punches at 14,5% abv which is not really something you could gather from tasting it blind.
Second take on this one, in a different vintage (2015 then, 2016 now). I enjoyed the last one much more I'd say. This one is ready for anything, especially if fighting is involved, and will probably bite you remorseless when you expect it the least.

Super nose of black and sour cherry and a bit of hay too along with floral notes (violet) That's very good.
The palate is very well balanced with a bright cherry all along à very long and strong acid backbone, some width and a finish made of cherry and flowers. So good!

Bought it in London 3 years ago. Waited for a special dinner. Worth the wait.

Apr 27th, 2016Dark cherry colour, quit bright and clear. Really clean aromas of spice and dried meats. Sweet fruit smooth clean lovely balance and acidity. A very soft but persistent finish. Lovely example of bottle ages Barbera.

Mar 11th, 2016Lovely clean bright crimson. Meaty. Marrakech spice and all savoury aromas. Lovely medium bodied texture, soft but with backbone of acidity and the subtlest tannin action. A slightly austere finish. A lovely version and great food wine.
