Possibly biased review due to sentimental attachment… first bottle of a wedding anniversary year wine that we plan to open repeatedly over the next 30 years. Nose is open and gorgeous after a 3-4 hour decant. Black licorice, cedar, clove, cherries, raspberry. Loads of depth. Rustic but still very perfumed. Acidity and tannin play off each other with creamy cherry and strawberry fruit, clay, and almond notes. Mid palate acidity lifts to a lingering dry finish with cranberry and ripe raspberry. Long and layered finish. Wonderful old school Barolo - can wait to follow its evolution. Fits the bill for a special occasion wine!
