It's always a big gamble when you buy and open a really old wine from less than a first rate producer, from a secondary region and from a year most people don't know anything about in that region.  It is always a good policy to expect a disappointment when you pop the cork. But like every big gamble, when the bet comes through the rewards are tantalizing. This was more than I could have ever hoped for. The cork (albeit short) was firm and in one piece. Always a good start. And then the perfume came. The room filled with gorgeous light scent of red fruits and florals. The wine itself was very light but muddy in color and completely bricked. But it was magical. Light, almost ethereal, but so young and fresh. It was all primary aromas - cherries, and other red fruits. Great acidity and just perfect tannic backbone. Drank over an hour this kept getting better.  But the experience was truly magnificent. Well done you, old Italian man who put this in a bottle 58 years ago!
