Vieilles Vignes de Gervans Crozes-Hermitage Syrah
Killer vintage of this. Nose is all red berry fruit and white pepper notes. Nice meatiness as well. Gorgeous spice and breadth. Such a classic nose. Palate is juicy and clear but it’s lacking the density of previous vintages. Great freshness and acidity and very pure. Lovely but a so called “minor vintage” for this wine. Maybe air will mellow it out and expand the depth. Really meaty and elegant after many hours. Gorgeous if. but different than other vintages.

Dec 10th, 2023One of the best Crozes. Beefy, bloody and plump. Superb granitic expression on the nose and silky texture and superb pure red and black berry fruit. Gentle but substantive tannins. Needs air but so classy and so Crozes.

Nose is granite and flowers. Hit of opulence. White pepper blizzard. So stunning. Some olive and bacon. So integrated and expansive. Palate is elegant and juicy. Sappy and clean. So gorgeous and pure. Really resolved and one of the first 15’s I’ve had that’s in secondary land. It’s so beautiful. Awesome freshness and energy. Great granitic intensity. 9.4 to 9.5 overnight. Wow. Gorgeous meatiness to it now. Nose has stunning olives. Wow wine.

Have not had in 2 years. It’s awesome now. Nose is olive and game. So wild. Black and red berry fruit. Granite galore. So fine. So refined. Gorgeous and wide open. Palate is a wonder. Super juicy and decadent but allied with terrific freshness and a smoking granitic finish also with notes of game, herbs and olive. The nose is a 9.6. Outrageous. Wow this is juicy. I’m going 9.5 here. The purity and clarity of fruit puts it over the top.

Feb 6th, 2022I adore this wine. Huge granitic nose. Almost cassis. Blackberry. Pulverized blueberry. White pepper. Leather. Amazing aromas. Black pepper ground up so so fine. Glorious spice and herbs. Just terrific. Juicy and concentrated. So pure and sappy. Enormous freshness and density and just so so fine. Beautiful balance and finishes with granite. Loads of blackberry, blueberry on the palate. Medium bodied and so so long. Still needs 5 years. Needs more density to be a 9.5 but a wonderful wine.

Jun 29th, 2021I adore this Crozes. 85+ year old vines from elite Crozes terroir. Lovely nose. Gamey, feral, spicey, so comforting, gravy, pepper. White and black spice. So so complex. Olive. Huge granite. Juicy and sensual with a musky inner mouth perfume. Big black and blue fruits. Opulent and rich but also fresh and energetic. Minerals clean up on the finish. Fantastic.
