I am tasting three sakes that are available here in the US and let me tell you, what a difference. The first is Momo Kawa, a junmai ginjo craft Sake. One word- Terrible. Unless you like drinking gin neat, you will not like this. It smells like paint thinner, tastes like straight gin, and is not cheap. The second is my favorite and the cheapest. Gekkeikan is awesome. Very smooth with no alcohol aftertaste or nasal sharpness. The boquet is similar to sunflowers and daisies. The initial palate is silky smooth with no nasal sharpness as experienced as with vodka, rum, and gin. The finish is also very smooth. The taste is that of celery and cucumber. The after taste is slightly acidic like that of a lemon rind. However, its SAKE, not wine. Great price, great sake. Drink it cold. The final sake is another jumani ginjo sake. Horin ultra premium Junmai Daiginjo sake is not what I hoped it would be. It has a wonderful boquet but the aftertaste rams your sinuses with a splash of isopropyl alcohol. Not worth it friends. I guess I'm going to have to travel to Japan and visit my friend Tom in order to find a real true delicious sake.

May 7th, 2018Cheap sake, also comes in a magnum bottle for around 10 bucks. Honestly, there's not much to say here. It's a pure sake with a citrus bite. Much better warm than cold, but a little too sharp for my taste. Check my other reviews of you are looking for a cheaper, smoother sake.
