Frequency Wineries Zweigelt 2014. Definitely one on the most unique wineries I visited while in Kelowna. It’s quite a small place, that allows musicians to play for free in their studio that they store the wine in to give the wine “good vibes” throughout its storage. Instead of giving you suggested food pairings, Frequency gives its wine a song pairing. For example they say this Zweigelt is best paired with The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd. It’s a fantastic presentation as you have your paid for tasting (waived if you buy a bottle.) I love how unique and special it all is, which is why I bought a bottle. However I would say it goes against how I’ve learned to store wine. Which is to avoid vibrations, thus not allowing a chemical imbalance to take place from the sediment not settling.
I’m not positive this is the reason for the wine falling a little flat for me or not, but the Zweigelt tastes a little watered down for my liking. Slightly smoky on the nose, a light oaky taste, but very thin. Could this be from the accelerated aging possibly due to the bass of instruments in their studio? I am unsure and couldn’t be certain.
In short, I would definitely suggest checking out the unique winery once. Unless you like a certain one from the tasting though, don’t feel pressured to purchase a bottle just to waive the tasting fee.
