Frei Brothers
Reserve Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel

First off, this is a winery I really like. Their Pinot is exceptional for the price
Nose is very fruity and a bit floral while the oak hangs back a bit. Blueberry comes through well without the tart (too many wineries fall into that "local wine" sweet trap with blueberry, but not here). Additional flavors or raspberry and strawberry are there as well. The oak is there from the start through the finish, but is quite mild. Your tongue tingles a bit, then you realize hey, that's the pepper finish! In other words, it's not predominant, but it is there.
Overall the wine is very well balanced, mild overall with fruit flavors that are not sweet, but detectable. Tannins are medium, but on par with dry creek comparable wines.

Hint of raisin but not cloying or overly "old vine." Pairs well with baby back ribs and a nice filet.
