Forest Hill Vineyard
Block 9 Shiraz
Wonderful aromatics of ripe plum, spice, pepper, dried meat, liquorice and iron. The medium bodied palate reflects the complexity of the nose with savoury dried red and black fruits with spice. I love these cool climate Shirazes which have the spice pepper and liquorice yet are quite rich in intensity and remain medium bodied. The product of old vines planted in 1965 when Forest Hill was established and making it the oldest vineyard in the Great Southern, near the town of Denmark. I bought this as an Aged Release from the Cellar Door pre-Covid. These days it is difficult to enter fortress Western Australia.

Jan 14th, 2022We bought this at the cellar door in Mt Barker WA in early January on a trip over there before COVID hit and state borders were closed. First of 6. Dark Ruby in colour. Very peppery on nose and palate with touches of cinnamon - fruit is in the plum spectrum. Drinking this rather young - it will develop more complexity. I personally love this Northern Rhone style.

Jul 11th, 2020Dense dark ruby in colour. Black Pepper, spice, plum, dried meat, gravel and Iron Filings combine on the nose. Another minerally powerful red that reminds me of Cote Rotie on steroids! Rich and spicy on the palate - very Northern Rhone in style. Fine grained resolved Tannins of M plus intensity with very good length. Typical of Shiraz from the Mount Barker region of WA. Love this style. At the winery restaurant and chosen from their cellared section on the menu.

Dec 27th, 2019Dark fruit, plum, and spiced cherry flavors married with pleasant vanilla oak aromas. Tannins strong but soften after decanting, body and alcohol content substantial but not overpowering. Perfect pairing with a wagyu steak dinner
