Splash Wines: "The Portuguese varietals blended to make this wine are: Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrochiero, and Tinto Roriz. The Dao region’s unique low fertility granite soil and cold, wet winters and very dry, hot summers produce grapes with incomparable flavor and unique character. The resulting color of this wine is a deep ruby with complex aromas. The forward notes are of red fruit with medium tannins. This wine does really well with aging, as it softens with time. It is highly recommended to decant and allow this wine to breathe- it will open up beautifully with exposure to air. Pairs wonderfully with lamb and beef. We highly recommend drinking with flavorful, hard cheeses as the wine will become incredibly expressive."

Honestly, I was thinking a red blend from Portugal?! Very skeptic but this blend is actually quite nice. Hints of blue and boysenberry on the nose but on the palate it’s a complex and richer, deeper red taste like blackberries and a bit of rhubarb; slightly acidic. Super cheap but doesn’t taste cheap.
