We tasted this wine at the cellar door and thought it was very nice but tonight it tastes quite mediocre. I’m a big fan of Hunter Valley shiraz, but this one just does not make the grade.
There is plenty of ripe blackberry and mulberry on the palate, with a hint of woodsmoke and tar adding some complexity. But I find the tannins badly lacking and the balance is off. I’m not sure if Shiraz suffers from a “dumb” phase, but I’m hoping more time improves the experience. Certainly not worth the $50 paid for it.
