First Creek Wines
Winemaker's Reserve Shiraz
Hunter Valley, New South Wales, AustraliaWe tasted this wine at the cellar door and thought it was very nice but tonight it tastes quite mediocre. I’m a big fan of Hunter Valley shiraz, but this one just does not make the grade.
There is plenty of ripe blackberry and mulberry on the palate, with a hint of woodsmoke and tar adding some complexity. But I find the tannins badly lacking and the balance is off. I’m not sure if Shiraz suffers from a “dumb” phase, but I’m hoping more time improves the experience. Certainly not worth the $50 paid for it.
