Fausse Piste
Riverrock Vineyard Syrah
I totally respect that Fausse Piste is made by a chef, I find his [Jesse Skiles] wine to be slightly rustic and rough around the edges like that of its maker. This is not a wine that will please everyone, so much the better, it's a great example of creative small-lot production, with long fermentation in neutral barrels and minimal racking. It's not polished, rather it is a humble and honest reflection of place—what does shine through are compelling layers of spring heather, anise, wild blueberries, savory herbs and a dash of black olive tapenade balanced against a supple, medium-weight frame.
