Bought a 2001 from winebid for $15. After wrangling with the cork I finally poured off two glasses, one for me and one for my wife. The color is a faded plum with the classic brick tone of aged red wines. The nose is subtle; notes of dried stone fruit; there’s a slight hint of booze, but it’s largely been tamed by the fruit. The taste is very pleasant; tannic up front, but quickly fades to a fruit leather sweetness. There’s just a touch of cigar box, and the alcohol has taken a far backseat—though it is still detectable. Medium to long finish. A nice bottle for the price and a fantastic pairing with the pasta with red sauce I’m enjoying. Maggie’s review: “I like that a lot!”
