Bright red. Vibrant sour red cherry, citrus peel, floral and anise scents boast good clarity and offer a spicy nuance. Clean and fresh on entry, then fleshier in the middle, but surprisingly lean and taut on the back end, offering juicy, sweet and sour orange and strawberry flavors. Finishes long and racy, with lingering spiciness. There’s just a trace of dilution in the middle or my score would have been even higher. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, June 2018)

Savory nose. Light palate. A touch of bitterness on the finish.

A rosé made from 100 percent Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, trained on a pergola abruzzese trellis facing a smiling south-west exposure. This is a saignée wine, deep watermelon pink from an 18-hour maceration on the grape’s black skins. It feels simple, at first, ripe with roly-poly cherry-strawberry fruit. But these turn out to be doused in a delicious (and vital) tonic of field herbs and tea, and the finish is bitter, in a good way. I like a wine that fools me. 12.5% abv | $12 (sample)

M, 13.99; 4/2016. Inky red

On the nose: very fruity, plum and black cherry? Spice.

Palate: fruity, but subtle finish. Soft tannins. Slight evidence of oaks. Almost effervescence. Cedar?

Like strawberries with both the hint of the bitter ones and the sweet ones.

Going away from my norm and trying a rose...not too sure yet how I feel about it.
