This threw me for a loop. This is merlot based (not sure of the actual makeup) but there is definitely some other varietals making up a good part of this. A buddy brought this back to me after visiting wineries in the area.
As a 2011, I was surprised at how dark this was. Dark purple and ruby red in the glass. Had a stinky blue cheese/peppered note on the nose which was odd. Smelled just a tad hot. Blackberry and rubber too. At first, this was so incredibly tannic it was vying to take the enamel off your teeth. Very gripping up front with a Hollow middle and a tannic finish. After 1-2hrs (and with food), this showed a more rounded mid-palate of herbal black tea, tar, underripe blackberry and cherry. Tastes as though it’s a merlot blended with a young Nebbiolo.
