Goats do Roam Shiraz Blend
Tasted 20/10/2016
Savory, juicy, highly drinkable blend of 6 varieties: Shiraz 58%, Crenache 12%, Mourvèdre 12%, Durif (Petite Syrah) 8%, Cinsault 7%, Carignan 3%. MLF. Aged in tanks and barrels. Funny 'coincidental' name consonant to Côtes du Rhône :)
Deep ruby to purple, garnet rim.
Spicy nose strikes with vanilla, violets, tobacco, ripe plum, sour cherry, black pepper, raspberry & cinnamon.
Silky fruit-forward medium-bodied palate. Vivid acidity & rustic tannins. Red currant, blackthorn, chokeberry, black gooseberry flavors, spiced by juniper and savory.
Knitting finish of chokeberry and cranberry.
Should team up well with cured and spicy meat.

Now that's a bottle full of grapes! This is a fun easy drinking down to "earth" every other week kinda wine. Has that classic South African hints of rhinosorus, water buffalo and lion poop! A funky assortment of dark berries and spice.

Jul 27th, 2018Goats do Roam is a walk down memory lane for me. This was my introduction to Rhone-style wines almost twenty years ago and was a regular buy for me back then. Today, giving it a try again, it still presents as a solid afternoon wine. It works with lots of food including spicy stuff. A great memory.

Dec 24th, 2017Make sure to let the wine decant. It's really good. Lots of spice and earthiness. Quite robust. Went well with our ribs. I would think it will improve with some age, let those tannins mellow a bit.

May 23rd, 2017A Shiraz (syrah, cinsault, mourvèdre, carignan and grenache) blend. Medium colour, aroma of fruit and spice. Subtle tannins with a medium finish. One of our go to wines. We are pairing this with grilled shrimp and steak dinner.
