Erbhof Unterganzner Weingut Josephus Mayr
St. Magdalaner Schiava
Hard to find Magdaleners over here. Really liked virtually everyone I had in the Dolomites. This one is just ok. Odd finish. Tobacco and potting soil.

Aug 30th, 2022How do you not love these Alto Adige wines? Light garnet in the glass with thin edges and a soft violet undertone. And what to say about this nose? Gorgeous red fruits, strawberry lemonade, fresh herbs, and a definite floral influence. I know and love Lagrein but I’m a relative newcomer to Schiava. Striking a nice balance between rustic earthiness and wonderfully bright fruit, this charms with simplicity but there’s a lot more to it beneath the surface. Deliciously feminine and supremely dry, the luscious mouthfeel leads to a textured palate. Cranberry, ripe cherry, and wild strawberry mingle with allspice and underbrush. If you can’t tell, I love this wine. And so should you.
