ExS Block Nine Sonoma Coast Syrah

A beautiful wine. Ripe black fruit, dark cherry, some cedar, muddy earth, smoke on the finish, which lingers with the fruit. #FI2018

Great tasting wine! Glad we found this winery while visiting Napa.

Not much has changed since the last bottle about a year ago. Ripe and rich. Lots of varietal nuances. Still need some time.

Coming from one of the coolest AVAs in Northern CA, I was expecting a fresher version when I opened the first bottle. But that was not the case at all. This is a 2nd bottle, and Iarrived at the same conclusion. Rich and concentrated, but full of varietal characters. Has the structure to go another 8-10 years.
A keeper.

One of the richest Syrah I’ve tasted. Jammy like a ripe Merlot, but there are notes of bacon fat, black pepper and scent of violet that reminds you this is Syrah. Thick but not heavy, thanks to lively acidity. Very long candied finish.

Would love to understand Syrah more but it’s never my type. - red fruits, peppery, almost reminds me of a zin
- Can’t get the gamey taste and smell
- Slightly grippier tannins and higher acid
- Not balanced to the acidic side

Took some time to open up. Nice tobacco bouquet. Jammy. Enjoyed it with a ribeye. Wish I’d opened it a few years ago but still enjoyed it.
