Edwards
Shiraz
Margaret River, South West Australia, Western Australia, Australia

I picked up this 17 year old bottle of Edwards from La Vigna on Walcott St a couple of months ago. I found it within their aged wines section and just had to buy it seeing as we visited the cellar door last year (travellingcorkscrew.com.au/margaret-river-wineries-edwards-wines). I found out that it was their first ever Shiraz vintage which makes it pretty special!
On the eye it's a deep rusty red colour. Surprisingly it has a very perfumed nose with earthy and floral tones mixed with ripe fruits inviting me in. The palate is juicy, smooth and full of those ripe fruit flavours with an enticing sweet plummy fruitiness on the finish. I really enjoyed this oldie, I had it by itself to fully appreciate how it's aged.
With any aged wine you have to appreciate it for what it is, you can't compare it to younger vintages as aged characteristics in a wine are a whole new experience. If you get a chance head along to one of the free aged wine tastings at La Vigna - you'll definitely learn a thing or two!
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective, so make sure you drink what you enjoy! #tcweekdaywine

I bought a case of these when they were released and it's still developing nicely. It's been about a year since I opened a bottle and there is heaps of dark fruit still there suggesting there are quite a few years still to go and only getting better.
