I’m an unabashed fan boy for the Estate wine—the ‘90, ‘91 and ‘94 are especially impressive examples that come to mind—but I’ve never connected with Napanook. The ‘96 is no exception. It initially delivered nice aged mushroom, cedar and bramble with a sweet cherry core of fruit but that faded quickly and green notes, muddled nondescript red fruit and bitter black coffee flavors took over and ruined the party.
