Domaine Tinel-Blondelet
Arelles Pouilly Fumé Sauvignon
Last bottle of the ‘20, all of which have been superb. Nose shows a range of fruit, ranging from apple to gooseberry to even tropical notes. But none too cloyingly ripe. There’s also a classic, intense gun-flinty minerality that is so perfect. Intense and soft in the mouth, with fruit and minerality in equipoise, and nice but unobtrusive acids propelling a very long and minerally finish. Upper echelon Pouilly-Fume.

Aug 26th, 2024Delicious. Nice balance of ripe fruit, pungent green herbs, stony minerality. Full and mouth-filling. Juicy acids.

Jul 11th, 2022I had and loved the ‘19 a few months ago and the ‘20 is just as good. When you want to show a wine newbie what a classic Pouilly-Fume is, this 50-year old vine cuvée is your example. So many examples are over-the-top lean and so herbie/grassy, but this one’s nose has ripe apple and gooseberry, loads of flinty minerality, and just a touch of freshly picked green herbies. So fresh and inviting. Mouthfilling and zesty, so minerally on the palate. Again, just the barest trace of green herbs.

May 25th, 2022One of the top Pouilly-Fumes I’ve had. Ever. My view is that, while P-Fume and Sancerre have much in common, Sancerre has several plots with superior terroir that set it apart from P-Fume. That said, this really shines. Intense nose juxtaposes light grassy herbal notes, limestoney minerality, and ripe fruit. In other words, all the elements you want from a Loire SB in perfect balance. In the mouth, it’s got piercing fruit up front, and then gives way to intense minerality together with zingy acidity, but not just acidity by itself: acidity integrated with fruity notes that creates an almost electric sensation. Really top notch effort.
