Backyard wine with Phelan and Mel on the first shorts-worthy day of spring. The brightness+crispness, prickly sensation of bubbles without being effervescent. Light and not sticky.

Recall that La Boutanche is a project designed to bring good, low intervention wine to the people for around $20. Different producers so a variance in quality too. So it goes.

The ones from Le Sot de Lā€™Ange (bulldog label) are the best of La Boutanche Iā€™ve tried and ā€œMelonā€ is a serious step above. Itā€™s creamy and rich, voluptuous, assumed from extended lees contact. It has white creamed corn, Granny Smith Apple, bitter almond, chamomile, white flowers, and fennel.

Fresh, bracing acidity, wonderful minerality, and yet paradoxically unctuous. For like $17. Amazing shit.

Crispy and saline (acid-heavy), with notes of lime and honeydew. Good with umami!
