Domaine Le Roc
Cuvée Don Quichotte Fronton
Wines from the south west of France can be tricky to taste, approach on their own. This is no exception, robust with good fruit and violet tones but somewhat getting firmer, a bit rustic towards the finish. We can like it or not...However, with food it is a very different story. Get some and discover it, really worth it and can keep and develop well up to 10 years in a good cellar.

1 person found it helpfulJan 23rd, 201560% Negrette - 40% Syrah. Animal, floral and savoury notes. The palate is silky, enveloping and fruity. Fine and spicy tannins. Clean and refreshing finish. Very good wine but one to have first on its own and then after with food. Authentic!

Jan 21st, 2014Nose of violet, blackberry, black pepper. This is very inviting! The palate is very well done with a strong acid drive, a nice blackberry and peppery note shining all along. There is a bit of tannins popping up in the rear and laying a dusty, drying layer, making way to a long fruity, peppery finish. Paired with a lamb stew, it was a dream!

Dec 31st, 2021Forgotten bottle at my in laws. What a good surprise! Didn't know I had left it there 🤷🏻♂️.
This is again a very biaised review as this comes from a vineyard located 10 miles away from where I grew up. A blend of negrette and syrah.
There is a strong violet, blackberry, irony, pepper nose. Very inviting. The palate is very much defined by its acid backbone and its vibrant blackberry and cherry note. There is a huge tannins wall in the middle here, drying up everything in its wake but making way to a fruity, peppery finish with a fruity twist. Huge wine for less than 10 euros

Violet, cherry, blackberry, pepper. This is a crazy nose. The palate is rather thin with a strong acid backbone. There is some matter and some bright black fruit all along, a bit of spice too but it's very easy going and on the length. Long floral finish with a pinch of fruit. Good stuff from my hometown.

Mar 22nd, 2020In a good spot right now. Nose with violet, blackberry and pepper. The palate is rather thin with violet and blackberry dancing around the acid backbone. Peppery finish with a nice fruit. Cool one

Jul 25th, 2019That funky barnyard nose at first is really annoying. And then it turns into violet and blackberry and black pepper. The palate is rather acid driven but with some spice and cola and red berries along the sides. Some nice texture in the end to shout out "fronton but whit a twist". Used to be funnier and more cote du Rhône. Love it like this

Mar 29th, 2019Violet, pepper, blackberry, blood, a bit of barnyard too on the nose. Funky! The palate is leaner and more negrette driven than in other vintages. It lacks a bit of this width I've loved in other years. This time it's a good, well structured fronton with a peppery twist. Not the funky northern Rhone style I like very much. It is a very good fronton but I was expecting more. 5 bottles left. I will let it stay for a while.
