Domaine Laurent Barth
Alsace Riesling
I struggle with the rating of this wine. I admittedly am fairly new to diving deeper into Alsace Riesling, and so my enthusiasm for this wine May be colored but the fact that I just don’t have the experience to put it into perspective. (First experience drinking quality champagne springs to mind; “it’s all so good!”) This Riesling is very delicious, and it has all of the qualities that I think I need in a good Riesling: high, but functional acid; a broad range of fruit in varying degrees of ripeness; minerality (smoky flint); savory & herbal components; and richness with a body that’s not too puny. I will say that there is a nagging hint in the back of my mind that says that all of this is plastic and lacks a three-dimensionality that I will find in better examples. Damn, it’s tasty, though!
