Les Lavières Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir

What a nose of sour cherries, ripe red apple, earthiness mid season cherries and so sappy. So elegant, unctuous and wide. Perfect balance and drinking at peak. No rush but drink up.

Have not had since 2019. Nose is brambly with a cherry melange. Very earthy. Some wood shavings. A bit aromatically closed for now. Palate is juicy, very concentrated and sappy with great purity. Really long but also seems backwards. But terrific fruit and intensity. Very very sappy. Needs a few more years but you can the low yields of 16 gave this wine density and tons of material.

After an hour this has softened up and is super juicy and the tannins have calmed down. 9.2 to 9.3. Lavieres is such good terroir.

Girard really did well in 19. This has a level of aromatic refinement you only get in the best Girard vintages. 12 is the best vintage before this. Then 14. Then 17. 13 is a favorite of mine even if it is ranked here. Anyways the nose has refined and precise florals, dark black cherry that has a stank to it. Just classy and intense. Screams great vintage. Palate is terrific. Beautiful soaking fruit, amazing cut, clarity, freshness and concentration. Has that amazing tiny berry intense black/red 19 fruit. Focused like a laser. This is so good. What a spine this has. Lavieres always ages well but thus will age particularly well. Add 5 years to whatever window you think. Maybe 10. Wild berry fruit and wet earth develop with air. Really pretty and complex. Compact with terrific fruit sweetness. Superb grip. I’d wait 5-6 years. What a finish. Maybe the finest young red I’ve had from Girard.

Very pretty nose. Gorgeous, high toned cherry fruit, layered and so pretty. Earth, minerals and some gorgeous tweed jacket, wet grass and mushroom scents. Gorgeous. Really just slamming. Palate is ripe and juicy with lovely concentration and purity. Finish is a bit short initially and dominated by tannins and minerals. But there is lovely mid season cherry fruit that is bright and a lovely complex mid palate and even more complexity on the finish. This seems like it will need a hour.

One of the finest sites in all of SLB. Always needs age. What a nose. Just dizzying. 2018 is so good in the so called “B” villages. Nose is deep. It’s floral. Dark red roses and violets. Late season cherry fruit and also black cherries. Almost kirsch in it’s intensity. What a palate. A monster. Nuanced, clear and detailed. So deep, so fresh, so concentrated. Amazing purity and sappy red and black cherries. Powerful and also elegant. Sappy. Such nice acid and freshness has an electricity to it despite its ripeness. Wow. Exhilarating is the best word. Terrific inner mouth aromas and sweet, ripe velvety and substantial tannins. The mineral drive throughout this wine is amazing right now but some of that will meld into fruit as this ages. This needs 5 years and then oh boy.

Stunning nose. Perfectly ripened mid-season cherries and loads of just perfect undergrowth. Also hints of very fine tweed jacket. A lipstick like intensity. Like a new Brioni. Gorgeous violets and other complex floral notes. Hints of citrus. This is just singing. Really stunning. It’s so clean and airy and just super Savigny. So pure and so dare I say it, Delectable. Palate is wonderful. So lifting with crunchy, ripe and gorgeous mid season sour and red cherry fruit. So vivid and detailed. Terrific inner mouth aromas of underbrush, violets, other floral notes and loads of crunchy cherry and even ripe cranberry fruit. Long and delineated with amazing energy and precision. Long, detailed with that perfect Burgundian finish of earth, mineral, cherry fruit, flowers and undergrowth. Superbly fine and refined tannins with lovely freshness than really pushes this finish to the next level. There is a tiny bit of rugged tannin on the finish which will resolve with age.

Love this vintage at Girard. Candied cherries, dense forest thicket, mineral, floral, cranberry, even come citrus, very fragrant but more to say. Palate is sappy and elegant with serious structure, deep cranberry and citrus fruit and lovely acid and freshness. Great depth and crunchy fruit. Really pure. Lovely long mineral infused brambly berry fruit and spices. I’d wait 2/3 years but not inaccessible now.
