Strong but needs time to open. Was quite closed at the beginning and we thought it might be over-the-hill. After being open 90 minutes it began to shine. Definitely wait! Served with sous vide eggs with truffles and then bloc de foie gras.

Really delicious Vieilles Vignes Gevrey-Chambertin. 2005 was such a solid year that this wine could still stand to age a bit more. Been about 12 months since I last tried the wine. It is opening sooner than last time, so definitely worth opening more over the course of the next six months. Nice earth, mushroom and fruit on the palate. Served with roasted duck, truffle pasta and Brussels sprouts. Carried over into various desserts, including flavored merengue, fruit sorbets (Blood Orange, Lemon), and two fresh baked brioche (sugar and chocolate).

Good Cote de Nuits Burgundy. A little alcohol on the nose. Starting to show well, but should carry on for a number of years, especially for a Village (old vines) wine. Very good with a leg of lamb and roasted potatoes. Served alongside the Les Roches, Chinon 2007, and was preferred by the men at the dinner.
