Côte-Brune Côte-Rôtie Syrah

Wonderful, bloody, gamey, minty and dark fruited silky Syrah. Wonderful.

Took 20 minutes and then! Whammo! Nose is wild and untamed, red berry fruit, complex, feral and wonderful, olives and flowers, wild mint. gorgeous, supple, olivey, high acid, very soft yet intense, nose is awesome now with air, herbs, mints and so complex and juicy, really lifted and bright, juicy and elegant and so so supple. tannins are a bit hard and angular and maybe more age will help the wine. I was wrong! Air smoothed it all out. has that old cote rotie nose, wow. juicy and clean and sappy and pure.

Just perfect. No formal notes.

The weekend upon us and we're hosting another dinner party for a couple of friends. Tonight's theme was Rhone wine, so good stuff on deck, with age.

A little green still, possible TCA cellar issue? Albeit drinking positive...

What an amazing wine! 95% Syrah with 5% Viognier this wine was a serenade on the nose and on the palate. The 2005 is balanced with silky tannins and nicely structured acidity. It still had freshness to the fruit but the tertiary flavors are seamlessly integrated. Cherry, raspberry, leather, meat, pepper and a touch of smoke. I was able to source my bottle direct from the Barge cellars and this is exactly what a superb 15 year old Côte Rôtie should be. (I wish I could have bought 6!)

What a nose. Gorgeous leather, flowers, beef blood, smoked meats, gamey, floral like crazy, so so aromatic. Superb aromas. 9.5 on the nose. So clean, layered and pure. Just a stunning nose. Truly a thing of beauty. Palate is silky, deep, substantial and gamey. Velvety tannins and terrific freshness. Long finish and super pure fruit on the palate. Significant tannins. So so elegant. What a wine. Terrific inner mouth aromas and so pretty. Inner mouth florals mixed with meats. Commentated and exquisite fruit. Totally whack wine. Best 14 CR I’ve had.

Divine. Years to go. 45 minutes now till insanity.

This was terrific. Olives and lavender and so much dark fruit. Meat, sauvage, muscular and classic Côte Brune. Needed 30 minutes then faded after 3.5 hours.

Super classy nose. Huge aromas, so classic. Huge berry fruit, really exuberant and so floral. Super intense and so structured, barely sweet fruit, big tannins but so refined. Long and so focused. Honest wine. So juicy. Lovely.
