Difficult to pinpoint the aromas at first and I wasn't sure if it was because of the reductive style or it's complexity. No one says this but it initially reminded me of the moment when I opened corn/maize chips as a kid. I did pick up sandalwood but it was too subtle for me to think George Noellat. A friend had mentioned toffee. Given we were going left and right, this suggests how different this wine was from the rest. Very impressive for Maxim's second vintage and maybe the best 2011 I've had so far. Shall be on the lookout!

Jun 30th, 2018Fantastic Red Burgundy! Approachable now and for the next five years but do not let this sit too long! A very powerful Grands Echezeaux with exceptional minerality. An exceptional wine from a tough vintage!
