Domaine du Jaugaret
St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend
High tone nose with a touch of va/ acetone. Translucent and almost no sediment in the bottle.. really old school a la Bel Air-Marquis D’Aligre. Palate is electric, very classically structured and fresh as a daisy. Nose takes a day to start showing floral and fruit notes and classic st Julien character. Very good, almost great; the aromatics never really soar. Bought at the domaine; Jaugaret is an organic and small production family winery (surrounded by mega châteaux).

Jun 13th, 20212nd time drinking this wine. 1 bottle drunk in France and this bottle drunk in the USA. There is so much hype behind this wine given miniscule production and traditional character. It’s a good wine and not flashy. However, it is not extremely complex and arguably lacking energy and refinement. Price tag is far too high in the USA.

Oct 4th, 2020A delightful treat, a recommendation of Rory Pugh, sommelier at the Grand Del Mar. Perfect pairing for our beef entrées. All the classic elements in balance. Bright juiciness upon opening gave way to a restrained and graceful structure. Lean and silky. Will certainly continue to develop for several, if not many, more years.

1 person found it helpfulJun 16th, 2015I can't believe I didn't rate this or write it up at the time. A suggestion from Rory Pugh, the sommelier at the Grand Del Mar (Fairmont) in San Diego. I forget if we were at Amaya or Addison. Regardless, this was a great suggestion by Mr. Pugh and an eye-opener. Went great with our entrees, which I'm sure were meat-centric. Had it again in Boston at Craigie on Main many months later. This is a terrific Bordeaux.
